Remember, the goal of Jingle & Mingle is to create lasting memories for those attending.

Be Prepared

Rules of thumb

Over the last 3 years, we’ve learned right along side our partners on what to expect.

9

Attendance

While attendance is tough to estimate, we use crowd density using overhead images to estimate attendance at a given time.  This doesn’t account for people coming late or leaving early.  So, the actual number of people attending is higher.

In good weather, we’ve hit a peak of approximately 5,500-6,000 people on 2nd St at the same time.

In colder, wetter weather, that number was closer to 4,600 – 5,200.

9

Be prepared for wind

2nd Street can be tricky this time of year.  While it may feel slightly warm, wind has a tendency to flow right down the street.  So, in addition to feeling colder, be prepared to manage things like flyers, banners and tents that may be affected by the wind.

Think like Hallmark

One consisitent theme over the last few years is people love how it makes Muscatine feel like a Hallmark movie, so when in doubt, do what Hallmark would do!

Setup schedule

We’ve worked with the City of Muscatine to provide the most flexibility for us to setup while keeping the streets available to access downtown businesses.

Stage setup begins

Sycamore St will be blocked on the river side of the street near the crosswalk for setup of the main stage.  Pine St will be blocked on the city side of the street near the crosswalk for the kid’s stage.  Full access to alleys and 2nd St. will continue.

Early Event Staging and Setup Can Begin

For those that have a more complex setup, you may begin setting up if the areas you’ve been assigned have been cleared.  You may also begin staging on the sidewalk area to prepare to move to your assigned area when it clears.

No parking enforcement begins

Muscatine Police Department will begin working to ensure all parking spots are cleared prior to the event.  Please be aware that the police will begin contacting vehicle owners and towing, so if you’re loading or unloading, please stay with your vehicle.

Side street access to 2nd st stoped

About 4:30, barricades will be errected between the alleys and 2nd on both sides of the street near the alleys to prevent access to 2nd.  Alleys will continue to have full access.  AS AN EVENT ORGANIZER, YOU MAY MOVE BARRICADES AS NEEDED TO ENTER THE EVENT AREA.  PLEASE REPLACE THE BARRICADES IMMEDIATELY IF MOVED FOR ANY REASON.

All traffic to 2nd st stopped

Final blockades erected to prevent traffic to 2nd St.  Again, as an event organizer, you may move the barricades as needed to enter and exit the event; however, please replace immediately.

Jingle and Mingle Starts

While we officially start at 5:30, be prepared for people to start strolling the street as early as 5:00 pm as you’re setting up.

Jingle and Mingle Ends

Please be prepared to stay setup and active through 8:00 pm.  While light cleanup may happen before, please avoid looking as if you are closing down prior to the posted 8 pm end time.
